ACK 55 Design Comments

Conceptual Design
Before starting the preliminary design development numerous concept sketches and drawings developed by NMYD were exchanged with the client and NEB to help direct the design concept development. Quite quickly the LOA was settled at 55 feet as the practical limit for short handed sailing and the number of guests the client wanted to sail with. At this point the design became referred to as the Nantucket 55.

Preliminary Design
Once the design concept matured the formal preliminary design phase was initiated. The R&D element began with developing a baseline candidate hull, an appendage package, and a detailed Weight Estimate. The Weight Estimate was modelled in Mooring and Sailing Trim since there were no rule or measurement conditions required.
